Chairman of the Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin has inspected the library services sphere during his working trip to Penza oblast, where he is taking part in the XXXth session of the Association of legislative (representative) bodies of the Volga federal district.
On arrival in Penza, Farid Mukhametshin and his colleagues visited several social and cultural objects. During the Association, they discussed legal aspects of cultural development.
The guests toured a multifunctional library and leisure center in Zasechnoe village. Penza citizens are proud of a new building of local library named after their famous compatriot Mikhail Lermontov. Construction of the library was initiated by the Lermontov society at the end of the 19th century. In pre-revolutionary period the library was under different stages of construction. Nowadays, the idea has been realized and the modern building was constructed in a new micro-district of the city. Total area of the library is 24 thousand m².
Farid Mukhametshin said it is very inspiring that local people are so eager to talk about their compatriots, including such outstanding people as Lermontov and Stolypin. Members of the Association also visited a reconstructed regional drama theatre.
