Today members of the republican parliament laid a new tourist route Kazan-Sviyazhsk-Bolgar-Kazan. Farid Mukhametshin chaired a field meeting of the Tatarstan State Council Presidium devoted to the reconstruction of two historical treasures of Tatarstan – ancient Bolgar and island-town Sviyazhsk. Tatarstan State Advisor Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the meeting.

In Sviyazhsk, parliament members saw restored buildings: complex of public places (treasury, offices, hospital and baths), unique Uspensky cathedral with 16th century frescoes, monastery and convent. The amount of invested assets and labor impressed parliamentarians. The Republican foundation “Revival” created by first Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev played the main role in attraction of investments. Parliamentarians also visited the Bolgar state historical and architectural open-air museum. The cathedral mosque, North and East mausoleums, chambers, minarets, khan’s palace and tomb were virtually given “a second birth”. Both ancient Bolgar and island-town Sviyazhsk pretend to become part of the UNESCO world heritage.

While opening the Presidium meeting, Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin said that Tatarstan’s unique architectural, historical and religious monuments create a basis for intercultural dialogue. Out of 7000 registered objects of cultural heritage in Tatarstan, 1513 are preserved by the state. The most important are ancient Bolgar and island-town Sviyazhsk. “The republican authorities have been consistently keeping to the centrist positions. The revival of two historical “pearls” of Tatarstan – Muslim and Orthodox – make them even more recognizable both in Russia and far abroad,” the parliament leader said.

Executive director of the “Revival” Tatyana Larionova informed about the reconstruction works. At present 23 objects in Bolgar and 28 objects in Sviyazhsk are being restored. In 2010, 1 157 mln rubles were spent – money that come partly from the republican and federal budgets, partly from donations. Most works are connected with the river boat stations construction and bank protection.

Mintimer Shaimiev said that the foundation keeps in focus life necessities of the people who live in these territories – building of new houses, roads and waste treatment facilities, gas, heat and energy supply. The State Advisor gave positive assessment to the draft resolution of the Presidium. The document, in particular, points out the important role of the long-term republican program “Heritage”.

Farid Mukhametshin mentioned two important aspects connected to the revival of historical monuments of the republic. He said that it is necessary to revive and develop folk artistic trades and expand souvenir assortment. Another aspect is educating influence of the project. “Our sacred objects will become both places of pilgrimage for religious believers and educate tolerance in our people, our youth,” the speaker said.
