Speaker of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Commission on International Cooperation of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation Farid Mukhametshin took part in the inter-parliamentary forum "Tajikistan - Russia: potential for interregional cooperation", which was held today in Dushanbe.
The parliamentarians discussed issues of Russian-Tajik cooperation, expansion of parliamentary, economic and humanitarian ties.
2022 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Tajikistan.
«Tatarstan has a long-standing cooperation with Tajikistan. Over the past four years, trade has been steadily growing, amounting to $19.5 million last year. Tajikistan shows great interest in the Tatarstan petrochemistry and tire products. Tajik manufacturers’ products, equipment and much more are in demand in Tatarstan. I think the potential of our cooperation is greater,” Farid Mukhametshin said.
According to the Speaker, Tatarstan and Tajikistan have great humanitarian ties. Currently, about 15 thousand Tatars live in Tajikistan. The national-cultural autonomy of Tajiks, created within the framework of the Assembly of the Peoples of Tatarstan back in 1988, unites about 6 thousand people. In Tatarstan all conditions have been created for learning the native Tajik language in the Multinational Sunday School.
