Today challenges can be effectively resolved only through close interaction of states and peoples. This was stated today by Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan, Honorary Member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Farid Mukhametshin at a meeting of the Chamber of Regions held in the framework of the 40th session of the Congress. The meeting was held remotely, due to the current COVID-19 health crisis.
"The problem of solidarity has become a high-priority issue on the global agenda due to the pandemic. Introduction of the lockdown policy, solving post-crisis problems in the economy and promoting the vaccine campaign are the pure responsibility of the regional authorities," Farid Mukhametshin said.
According to the Tatarstan Parliament Speaker, solidarity is not only coherence, but also common values and the readiness to help every member of society. "In our republic, the Assembly of the Peoples of Tatarstan provided assistance to thousands of those in need, regardless of ethnic and religious identity," he emphasized.
Yesterday, the 40th Session of The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe opened in Strasbourg. The impacts of the pandemic on socio-political and democratic processes in Europe’s cities and towns, the post-crisis recovery after lockdowns and the territorial solidarity in confronting contemporary challenges became the key issues on the agenda.
