Tatarstan and Bashkortostan unite efforts to preserve and develop native languages

Today, the Committee of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan on education, culture, science and national issues and the Committee of the State Assembly - Kurultai of the Republic of Bashkortostan on education, culture, youth policy and sports held a joint meeting in the Aktanysh district of Tatarstan. Heads of the parliaments of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan Farid Mukhametshin and Konstantin Tolkachev took part in the event. Parliamentarians discussed the issues of preservation and development of native languages and their role in the dialogue of cultures.

The Agreement on Cooperation between the parliaments of the two republics was first signed back in 1997. Farid Mukhametshin noted that Tatarstan and Bashkortostan had many points of convergence. Preserving native languages, interethnic and interfaith harmony in Russia, in which representatives of more than 190 nationalities live, are the basis for the successful development of the state. 2021 in Tatarstan has been declared the Year of Native Languages and National Unity.

According to the Speaker of Tatarstan Parliament, studying the experience of other regions, including neighboring Bashkortostan, helps to identify internal reserves. He emphasized that all national republics of the country understand the importance of language issues. "Such meetings open up new opportunities and contribute to the emergence of breakthrough initiatives of the parliaments of Russian regions," he said.
