Today, Tatarstan Parliament Speaker, Chairman of the Commission of the Council of Legislators of Russia on international cooperation issues Farid Mukhametshin took part in a meeting of the Council of Governors of Russia and Japan.
The meeting was held in the capital of Russia for the first time in nine years. The sides discussed cooperation on the economy, digital technologies, humanitarian sphere and exchanged views on the prospects for development of bilateral relations in small and medium-sized businesses in Japan and Russia. The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation provided the platform for the regions to cooperate directly. Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted the participants of the event.
Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko opened the meeting. She noted that Moscow once again had become the starting point for the development of the Russian-Japanese friendly relations. “First steps towards interregional cooperation between the two countries were taken back in the past century. Today almost all Russian regions have strong ties with Japanese partners,” she said.
According to Farid Mukhametshin, the meeting is of mutual interest both for Tatarstan and other Russian regions. “It is very important that today new opportunities for cooperation between regions are opened up in both countries. Tatarstan is a republic with the developed petrochemical industry, engineering, aircraft building and shipbuilding. Our mutual interests coincide, and we are already interacting with a number of Japanese enterprises,” he said.
The sides discussed the possibility of holding the next meeting of the Council of Governors of Russia and Japan in Kazan.
