Today Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhamedshin had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Russian Federation Mr. Mehmet Samsar. The Chairman congratulated the diplomat on his new appointment and expressed confidence that the existing friendly relations and interparliamentary cooperation between Tatarstan and Turkey would further strengthen.
Turkey is one of the key trade partners of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Mr. Mehmet Samsar noted that due to the efforts of the States’ leaders relations between Turkey and Russia had significantly improved. “Almost a quarter of Turkish investments to Russia accounts for Tatarstan,” he said.
Farid Mukhametshin placed emphasis on the municipal cooperation between the cities of the two republics that led to the development of inter-State cooperation.
In recent years Tatarstan and Turkey have created a solid base of inter-parliamentary interaction. Visits between leaders and parliamentarians have become more common. The Chairman reminded that in April 2015 a delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey led by Speaker of the Parliament Cemil Cicek had visited the State Council of Tatarstan. The sides had signed the Memorandum on further cooperation between the two parliaments.
It was the Turkish parliament that became the first foreign partner of Tatarstan. The first Protocol on cooperation was signed back in 1995.
The interparliamentary ties in humanitarian spheres are very close. The Turkish national-cultural autonomy under the Assembly of the Peoples of Tatarstan plays an important role in republican cultural and social life. The Sunday school opens up opportunities for studying Turkish.
The Russia-Turkey Cross Year of Culture aimed at developing bilateral relations starts in April 2019 in both States.
