On January 22, Speaker of the Tatarstan Parliament, Chair of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation Farid Mukhametshin left for Japan on working visit. He is to visit Tokyo, Sapporo and Hakodate as member of the parliamentary delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly. The delegation is led by Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev.
Members of the delegation will participate in the joint meeting of the Consultative Board for promotion of Russia-Japan interparliamentary and interregional cooperation of the Federation Council and Japan-Russia "Discussion club" of the Japan House of Councillors.
Russia-Japan mutual relations got a new impulse after the working visit of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Japan in December 2016, as well as interparliamentary contacts. Meetings between leaders of both houses of the Russian parliament with their Japanese colleagues became regular. There was set the Parliamentary Association of Japan-Russia friendship that unites more than 120 deputies representing both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors of the Japanese parliament.
2018 is also a Russian-Japanese bilateral Year, that is to play a special role in developing multifaceted cooperation. The program of bilateral year is to cover all aspects of Russian-Japanese relations: economic cooperation, politics, science, technologies, media sphere.
