Today Tatarstan Parliament Speaker Farid Mukhametshin met with head of the Kazan office of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation Oleg Isaev, who took over the office in June 2017. They discussed ways to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tatarstan and Belarus.
Farid Mukhametshin noted that the Kazan office of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation, which was established in 2011, had seriously contributed to the rapprochement between the two republics in many areas, especially in the economy, agriculture and culture. The head of the parliament emphasized that the opportunities for cooperation between Tatarstan and the Republic of Belarus are much higher.
Farid Mukhametshin pointed that Tatarstan “is always ready to lend a regional hand” within the framework of Russia-Belarus relations.
Oleg Isaev said that according to the 2017 year-end results the bilateral foreign trade turnover exceeded USD 1 billion. Besides, Tatarstan is among the top significant regions of Russia for trade and economic cooperation with Belarus.
Oleg Isaev noted that such a deep cooperation resulted in creation of millions of new jobs in both republics. This gives confidence about the future. Most importantly, bilateral trade and economic ties show the importance of peaceful existence and cooperation, which is extremely relevant today.
He also added that medical cooperation between the two republics is actively developing, particularly in creation of the new generation simulation centers on the basis of medical and educational institutions of Belarus.
Oleg Isaev also informed that starting April 26 “Belavia Air Company” launches four time-per week flights between Minsk and Kazan. He expressed hope that direct air flights will contribute to the development of trade and economic relations between the countries. In addition, there is a very powerful tourist potential both in Belarus and in Tatarstan.
In April of this year the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan together with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus are to hold Days of Tatarstan Culture in Belarus. Farid Mukhametshin expressed hope that this event will further boost the bilateral relations.
Ending the meeting, the head of the parliament noted that Tatarstan is interested in strengthening the inter-parliamentary ties between the two republics. Farid Mukhametshin noted that strengthening of cooperation in all areas will add to the authority of both Russia and Belarus.
