On June 6, Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Russia Jean Arthur Regibeau. The meeting took place in Farid Mukhametshin's office in the State Council. Ambassador of Belgium arrived in Tatarstan with a delegation of Belgium business circles.
Farid Mukhametshin greeted the guest and stressed the importance of this meeting. He informed the Ambassador of Belgium about the structure of the State Council of Tatarstan, interparliamentary cooperation with members of the European Union and his activity in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
The Ambassador said that pan-European institutions are very important institute of authority, which puts much attention to the development of democracy. "There are constant discussions on various issues on political arena of our country, but 99 percent of cases have compromises. This makes the life of politicians, including experts in legislative authorities, much more interesting," he said.
According to Farid Mukhametshin, Tatarstan and Belgium are connected not only by economic cooperation, but also by relations in cultural and educational spheres. "Tatarstan is active in information and nanotechnologies. We take into consideration international competition and tend to develop further on," he said. The parties discussed a broad range of issues, including international situation and prospects for development of cooperation between Tatarstan and Belgium as part of Russia-Belgium relations.
The Ambassador also visited the Parliamentary center and Museum of the State Council.
