Today the International scientific-practical conference “The Earth Charter is a practical tool for solving fundamental problems of sustainable development” opened in Kazan. It was devoted to the 15th anniversary of the Earth Charter principles practical use in the Republic. The Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin participated in the plenary session.
On behalf of the Parliament Farid Mukhametshin welcomed organizers, participants and guests of the event. Scientists from 11 countries: Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine, representatives of 22 Russian universities took part in the conference. President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, President of International Green Cross Mikhail Gorbachev, former UNESCO General Director Federico Mayor and international organizations sent their greetings.
The Chairman of the Parliament said that Kazan was chosen as a venue for the International conference because 15 years ago on the 27th of April 2011 the State Council of Tatarstan had adopted the Resolution on the Earth Charter project. “Our region was pioneer to start using the Earth Charter principles. Commitment to achieve high living standards, healthy economic environment through innovative technologies, solution to ecological problems, preservation of cultural heritage for future generations, and promoting healthy lifestyle was confirmed at the legislative level."
According to the head of Tatarstan Parliament, the normative legal base in the field of environmental protection, which includes more than 30 legislative and other normative acts were created over the last decades in Tatarstan. The Republic invests over 15 billion rubles a year to the long-term ecological programs. Farid Mukhametshin named the state program "Development of motor fuel market in the Republic of Tatarstan for 2013-2023", which allowed to reduce emissions by 13 thousand tons per year, an example of successful environmental problems solution.
