On February 15 Tatarstan Parliament Speaker, Chairman of the Current Affairs Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Farid Mukhametshin met with his European colleague –Vice Chair of the mentioned committee, member of the Parliament of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) Joseph Neumann.
Mr. Neumann arrived in Kazan to participate in the International Congress of experts of the inclusive education, which is being held this week in the University of Management “TISBI”. Training of people with disabilities has been introduced by this University 20 years ago and it continues to promote the formation of an accessible educational environment in the republic.
Farid Mukhametshin and Josef Neumann agreed that Russia and Europe should consider the ways for a rapprochement between the two countries.
European parliamentarian noted that Russian retaliatory sanctions had impacted negatively the economy of the Westphalia region, many companies suffered heavy losses. One of the major companies closed, leaving about 300 people without jobs.
Farid Mukhametshin agreed with his European colleague that now it’s very important to choose a step-by-step rapprochement strategy. Such “rapprochement steps” could be a joint participation in various scientific conferences, cultural activities, student exchange programs and other forms of interaction.
During the meeting the sides touched upon the problem of refugees in Europe. According to Mr. Neumann only Westphalia region alone are receiving one thousand migrants per day.
Farid Mukhametshin expressed deep regret over the situation. “This problem can be solved only by establishing peace in the country from which they are arriving. There is no other way out”.
The meeting was also attended by Vice Chair of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Rimma Ratnikova, Rector of the University of Management “TISBI” Nella Pruss, Josef Neumann’s assistant Nicole Esser.
Prior to the meeting the high guests toured the republican parliament and visited its main sessions chamber, library and museum of parliamentarism.
